The Zürcher Hochschule der Künste ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts) is the largest university of the arts in Switzerland combining the faculties of art, media, design, film, theatre, music, dance and art education. It is renowned for colour theory and its creative atmosphere. A prominent director was Johannes Itten who served in this position from 1938 to 1954. Today the ColourLight Center (CLC) serves to carry on this tradition conducting important research projects and producing significant publications.
Only a few minutes walk from the Zurich main railway station and only 11 kilometres from the international airport, the main building of ZHdK where the conference will be located was completed in 1933 by Adolf Steger and Karl Egender and is a heritage monument as an icon of Swiss modern architecture of the early 20th century. The recently restored auditorium has excellent technical equipment.
